DISCOVER WHY WE EXIST
The Maria Celine Onwughalu Foundation (MCOF) was founded in memory of Maria Celine
Onwughalu, whose early death was a stark reminder of the severe challenges many women face.
Confronted with inadequate maternal care, limited resources, and the pressure to bear many children, she endured the harsh realities that millions of women still experience today. Her story is not just a personal loss but a powerful call to address the systemic issues affecting women’s
health, well-being, and empowerment globally.
MCOF’s mission transcends traditional support for women by embracing a holistic approach that also includes the needs and voices of men and boys. We firmly believe that true empowerment
and protection of women cannot be achieved without equally investing in the care and
development of boys. Boys, when neglected, will grow and become harmful to the society and also hinder the progress of women and girls they share the same society with.
It is essential that their stories are heard, their needs are met, and their development is fully
supported and funded, as they are an integral part of the societal fabric.
Our commitment is to foster environments where all children—regardless of gender—are
nurtured, protected, and empowered to lead fulfilling lives.
We recognize the importance of teaching boys to value respect, equality, and empathy from a young age, which not only benefits
them but also contributes to a safer and more harmonious society for all.
At the heart of MCOF is the belief that every woman deserves the right to make informed choices
about her body, her family, and her future. We advocate for fewer births in conditions of
economic hardship, improved maternal care, and the mental and financial empowerment of women. By providing access to education and resources, we strive to equip women with the tools they need to break free from cycles of poverty and dependence, enabling them to create
healthier, more sustainable lives for themselves and their families.
The Maria Celine Onwughalu Foundation stands as a beacon of hope and action. Our goal is to
spark a global movement that addresses the interconnected challenges of maternal health, gender equity, and child development. This foundation is more than a tribute—it is a commitment to driving change and inspiring others to join us in building a world where every child, boy or girl,
and every woman has the opportunity to thrive.
Through collaboration and collective action,
MCOF seeks to reshape the narrative, creating lasting impact across communities and
generations, while ensuring that the needs of both genders are acknowledged and addressed
